APPLICATIONS – CENTRIFUGES
Steve’s approach is geared around sharing technical expertise. He has presented a number of technical courses to numerous mines, consultants and associations. The courses cover sizing, G force, particle size distributions, recovery, moisture machine set up, tonnage, feed percent solids, torque and trouble shooting.
While with FLSmidth, Steve held the position of Market Manager – Mineral Centrifuge Products. He received this position after numerous years of work in sales and technical development of the H900 Screen Scroll Centrifuge. The high-speed screen scroll centrifuges were used in the application of dewatering spiral 1.5 mm to 0.4 mm fine coal and pusher type centrifuges used to dewater potash salt. In these applications, moistures of between 8 and 11% were achieved. In the potash application, introducing feed accelerators in pusher type centrifuges increased tonnages.
Another part of his experience was working on equipment upgrades, for example, triple vs. double lead conveyors in screenbowls, feed accelerators, ribbon conveyors, feed distributions, tonnage predictions and recovery verse moisture graphs etc.
Centrifuges Continued…
He has gained considerable success in Australia over the past years. Dewatering reviews have been conducted at Blackwater, Bulga, Kestrel, Peak Downs, Hail Creek, Saraji, Wambo, Curragh, Meandu, and Millmerran to name but a few. His findings have improved both the recovery and total moisture of applications. Inspections typically indicate the wear patterns and problem areas. Extending the life and recovery of a basket centrifuge has proven to more than adequately cover the costs of a dewatering review. He has also completed projects for mines in Canada and South Africa. Projects included the development of fines dewatering circuits – belt press, belt filter, centrifuge and or thickener selection. Often a combination of the above has proven to be more viable. The brand names that he has worked on are Tema, Wemco, Humboldt, Ludowici, Bird, Pieralisi, Broadbent and Decanter.
